# Monitor channels

> Check for new uploads on a schedule you control.

A monitor watches the newest result for a channel, topic, or search. Channel monitors are what the current dashboard creates from an inspected video or channel.

## What each check does

1. Loads the monitor only if it is enabled.
2. Reads the channel's latest video, or the newest search result for topic and search monitors.
3. Treats the first observed video as the baseline without notifying you.
4. On a later check, creates a notification only when the leading video ID changes.
5. Advances the cursor after notification delivery has been queued.

<Warning>
  Monitoring currently detects a newly leading video. It does not measure keyword mentions inside transcripts, view velocity, comment changes, or edits to an existing video.
</Warning>

## Schedules

Choose every hour, 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, 3 days, or one week. New monitors default to every 24 hours and queue their baseline check about one minute after creation.

Each monitor owns an independent Durable Object alarm. Pausing or deleting one monitor does not change the schedule of another.
